In the days leading up to the program’s start, I mentally prepared myself for the trip I was about to take—the first stop on my path to college. After all, I’ve heard that college is far more challenging than high school. Though, I have to say that I am quite thrilled to be attending USTP and that I have big goals for where I hope to go after obtaining a degree.
What it means to live independently will probably be the first problem I run across and, hopefully, overcome over time. The concept of being independent holds immense allure for the majority of us after spending the previous 18 years living under our parents’ watchful eye, but it also generates an equal amount of worry and apprehension. We may soon come to the realization that we are not ready to be left on our own at a college campus after having been entirely cared for from our clumsy first steps as an infant through walking the stage at our high school graduation. We’ll soon have to become self-sufficient in terms of cooking, cleaning, and self-care
Our time in college is often thought of as a transitional period between our academic years and our careers. It provides us with the best academic preparation and platform to make dreams come true. It serves as a transition to get us ready to be more self-reliant. We were reliant on our parents while attending school. However, we developed our independence at college in terms of studying, traveling, making decisions, and achieving financial independence after graduation. We are respected and the shift is really easy, and we are not even aware of our independence.
